SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Authorities confirmed more than two dozen people have been arrested in connection with an ATV and dirt bike takeover of the Bay Bridge on Sunday. The cross-bay disruption caused traffic to come to a standstill as law enforcement intercepted the riders and seized 77 of their ATVs and dirt bikes.
Six people were arrested on felony charges, including two alleged sideshow promoters who were taken into custody May 1. Nineteen others were cited and released on misdemeanor charges, the Oakland Police Department told KRON4 on Thursday.

According to Oakland Interim Police Chief James Beere, those arrested on Sunday were for reckless driving, possession of firearms and pursuant to a warrant.
The group of riders first met in East Oakland on Sunday before driving to Berkeley and then back to Oakland, Interim Chief Beere detailed at a news conference on Monday. The group then made their way across the Bay Bridge into San Francisco. When the sideshow made its way back across the Bay Bridge toward Oakland, officers with the California Highway Patrol and police departments in Oakland and San Francisco intervened.
The interim chief said his goal is to have the 77 seized ATVs and dirt bikes destroyed. He estimated the total value of the vehicles that were towed away to be around $200,000.
Police began investigating the group of ATV and dirt bike riders two months before Sunday’s showdown, according to Interim Chief Beere.

“This investigation started with one of our police officers being violently assaulted, a dog ran over and a carjacking that was interrupted,” said Beere. “If you engage in violence against the public, against our officers, we will defend ourselves.”
OPD on Thursday said it would have dedicated staffing over the upcoming weekend to address potential sideshow activity.
