Officers arrested nearly a dozen people suspected of soliciting sex in downtown Vallejo as part of an effort to crack down on exploitation and improve neighborhood safety, police said.
The Vallejo Police Department said the operation, which was carried out Thursday near Marin Street and Sonoma Boulevard, resulted in the arrests of 10 people — including a 95-year-old suspect.
Police conducted several enforcement stops in an area known for human trafficking, the department said.
Officers targeted drivers who appeared to be soliciting commercial sex by circling the same blocks, stopping to speak with sex workers on the sidewalk and returning to repeat the same activity.
Police said they seized an unserialized H&R revolver inside a black Cadillac Escalade during one encounter with a suspect.
Among those arrested in the sting were several people from cities outside Vallejo, including Sacramento, Napa, Fairfield, Manteca (San Joaquin County) and Rosemead (Los Angeles County).
The suspects were booked into Solano County Jail, and their vehicles were towed from the scene.
The operation was part of an effort to “address the demand that contributes to human trafficking and related crimes within the community,” Vallejo police said.
