Man arrested after standoff in Sacramento had multiple sexual assault warrants, police say

A man wanted on sexual assault charges has been identified days after an hours-long standoff at a home in the Upper Land Park area that ended in his arrest. (Previous coverage in the video player above) The Sacramento Police Department said Paul Guess, 38, had warrants for multiple sexual assault charges. Jail records show those charges include multiple sex crimes against children. On May 4, Before 11:30 a.m. , officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on Guess at 5th Street and Seavey Circle, police said. He did not stop, leading officers on a chase. Guess, who police said was possibly armed, later ran into a home in 200 block of Seavey Circle where he refused to come out for several hours. SWAT officers and crisis negotiators responded to the area to try to get him to peacefully surrender. Police said after the standoff concluded Guess was taken to the hospital for self-inflicted injuries. He is expected to appear in court on Monday and is ineligible for bail.
