Lula Davis-Holmes made history in 2020 as Carson’s first Black female mayor and was re-elected in November 2024. A Carson resident for more than 47 years and a former teacher, Davis-Holmes served on the City Council for over a decade before running for mayor. During her leadership, Carson approved the first structurally balanced budget in more than 10 years and moved forward with various park improvements, including a $16 million expansion of Carriage Crest Park, funded in part by a $13 million state grant. She has also promoted economic development through the Envision Carson project and launched workforce housing initiatives.
