(FOX40.COM) — A Sacramento Police Department officer was hospitalized Wednesday after being bitten by a West Sacramento Police Department K9 during a foot pursuit, police said.

SPD said officers witnessed a reckless driver around 2:45 a.m. in the area of 24th Street and 68th Avenue. A vehicle pursuit began before the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Jesus Roberto Aguilar, fled on foot near 25th and 51st Streets.

Police said Aguilar began jumping fences and officers set up a perimeter in an effort to detain him.

A K9 with WSPD was used to apprehend the suspect, resulting in an SPD officer getting bit.

The officer was taken to the hospital and their condition has not yet been released.

Aguilar was arrested and booked on multiple evading and resisting charges, along with a felony no-bail warrant he previously had.
