As the summer season approaches, Long Beach is ready to celebrate with live music for the entire community.

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will kick off the summer with a free concert on May 22 at Conductor Larry Curtis Concert Park at Marine Stadium, 5255 E. Paoli Way.

The popular 1980s cover band Radio Royalty will perform, according to a recent press release. Concertgoers will be able to dance and sing along to the energetic sounds of ‘80s and contemporary dance hits while enjoying an evening along the waterfront.

“We can’t wait to kick off another incredible summer of free, family-friendly entertainment for our community,” Mayor Rex Richardson said in a statement. “Our Summer Kickoff Concert is an annual tradition that is all about embracing the long summer nights and creating meaningful connections and joyful memories with family and friends.”

The summer kickoff concert will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to ensure ample time to park, make their way to the concert area and enjoy other activities. Beginning at 5 p.m., there will be face painting and a bounce house available for children to enjoy leading up to the concert, according to the press release.

Attendees can bring blankets, chairs and picnic dinners to enjoy during the performance.

“The Summer Kickoff Concert in Marine Stadium is an exciting way to start another beautiful summer in Long Beach,” Third District Councilmember Kristina Duggan said in a statement. “We invite people to come out and enjoy an evening of live music and good times.”

Besides the concert, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will also host a variety of other free, family-friendly events and programming throughout the summer, including Movies in the Park, the 117th season of the Long Beach Municipal Band, and ensembles at the El Dorado Nature Center, among other opportunities.

More information about these summer events will be shared in the coming weeks, the press release said. For more information, visit longbeach.gov/park.

“We are proud to once again offer spaces and programs that bring our community together this summer,” Stephen Scott, director of Parks, Recreation and Marine, said in a statement, “giving residents and families opportunities to connect, play and make lasting memories.”
