BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Crime Victims’ Rights March and Candlelight Vigil in Kern County is scheduled for Nov. 6, according to the Kern County Board of Supervisors agenda.
The Kern County Board of Supervisors is expected to proclaim the Victims of Violent Crime Memorial Dedication, Crime Victims’ Rights March and candlelight vigil event for Thursday, Nov. 6 during its meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Nov. 4 at the Kern County Administrative Center Board of Chambers, located at 1115 Truxtun Ave.
The Kern County District Attorney’s Office and Kern County have constructed the Victims of Violent Crime Memorial in the courtyard outside the county building between 1115 and 1215 Truxtun Avenue, according to the meeting agenda.
“This meaningful tribute will stand as a lasting testament to those who have tragically lost their lives to unlawful murder and manslaughter within our community,” the agenda said.
The memorial, which is slated to be officially unveiled at the Crime Victims’ Rights March and Candlelight Vigil event, will feature an ossuary containing the names of every homicide victim in the county since its establishment, according to county officials.
District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer announced the postponement of the march April 7, saying it was caused by construction delays for the memorial. The march was originally supposed to take place during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week from April 6 to April 12.
