BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified a 30-year-old man who was involved in a crash with a semi-truck in south Bakersfield on Sunday.

The man was identified as Angel Anthony Estrella of Bakersfield, according to coroner officials. Estrella was involved in a crash on northbound Highway 99 near Hosking Avenue on May 10 just before 2 a.m.

Estrella was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation showed a man, later identified as Estrella, was driving a 2015 Honda Civic on northbound Highway 99 in the number three lane at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a 2019 Peterbilt semi-truck was traveling in front of the Honda Civic at about 55 mph.

CHP said the Honda overtook the semi-truck and collided with the rear-end of the semi-trailer. The Honda then traveled in a northeast direction and came to rest on the right shoulder.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the highway patrol at 661-396-6600.
