(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrested this week after an alleged DUI crash in a government vehicle was identified by prosecutors as a detective.
However, officials have not determined whether the deputy will face charges.
The deputy involved in the Tuesday crash is Sacramento Sheriff’s Detective Richard Hamilton, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.
The statement, which was not attributed to District Attorney Thien Ho or any specific official, said the office “takes driving under the influence cases very seriously.”
“Our office did a thorough review of all the evidence currently submitted,” the office’s statement said. “To determine whether felony or misdemeanor charges should be filed, further investigation is needed to ascertain the extent of the victims’ injuries. Additional investigation is being completed, and we will make a filing decision as soon as we have all the relevant facts.”

The sheriff’s office, which did not identify Hamilton after the crash, said the deputy was in an unmarked county car — but not on duty — when he was involved in a crash near Douglas Road and Sunrise Boulevard around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
He was arrested by officers from the Rancho Cordova Police Department on suspicion of drunk driving. Hamilton was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation, plus the district attorney’s criminal probe.
“We take this matter very seriously and extend our sincere apologies to the community,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release Wednesday, adding that the deputy’s conduct “does not reflect the values or standards” of the office.
