Article, the online-first furniture brand whose clean-lined sofas and dining sets have become fixtures in design-conscious homes and social feeds, is coming to San Francisco.

The Vancouver company said Thursday that it plans to open one of its first U.S. stores this fall at 2299 Alameda St. in San Francisco’s Design District, taking over a former EQ3 space.

A second U.S. store is planned for Bellevue, Wash., near Seattle.

The move marks a new phase for a company that built its name selling furniture directly to shoppers online. Article launched in 2013 and has since delivered nearly 3 million orders across the U.S. and Canada, according to the company.

Its first physical store opened in Vancouver, B.C., in 2024.

Article said the San Francisco showroom, located near the Design Center, will be about 7,500 to 8,200 square feet. Customers will be able to browse furniture, place orders in the store and buy select décor and accent items on-site.

The company also plans to offer free design services for shoppers working through room layouts or larger projects.

The West Coast has long been one of Article’s strongest markets, the company said. California and Washington are among its top five states for e-commerce sales, and the region accounts for roughly a quarter of total purchases.

“We see physical retail as an extension of the business we built online and are approaching expansion with discipline,” Aamir Baig, Article’s co-founder and CEO, said in the announcement.

The company has not announced an exact opening date for the San Francisco store.
