BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Drivers who use Stockdale Highway in southwest Bakersfield should plan for overnight closures and lane reductions starting Sunday, May 17, as the city begins a pavement rehabilitation project.
Both directions of Stockdale Highway between Old River Boulevard and Buena Vista Road will be affected. Closures are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday each week through Thursday, July 16.
The project includes reconstruction of Stockdale Highway, including removing existing asphalt and repaving the roadway; installing thermoplastic and green methyl methacrylate striping and lane markings; adjusting existing manholes and water valves; constructing a new median nose; and adjusting monument encasements.
Lane reductions and closures are expected during the project. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes or plan for additional travel time through the area. Traffic controls will be used when necessary to ensure safe travel through the work zone.
