(KRON) — A longtime Mexican restaurant in San Jose is closing after 35 years. La Grullensa is serving its final meal on Sunday, May 24, the restaurant announced in a social media post.
“With heavy hearts, we want to share that due to circumstances beyond our control, we will be closing the doors of our physical location,” La Grullensa wrote in part of an Instagram post. “This place has been so much more than a restaurant — it has been a home filled with laughter, memories, and the incredible community that all of you helped build.”
The main reason for the closure is due to the VTA construction, Fernando Galindo tells KRON4. La Grullensa is one of many businesses in East San Jose affected by the project.
Galindo said last November that the construction caused traffic for potential customers to arrive at his restaurant, with many opting not to deal with the hassle at all.

However, La Grullensa may not be shutting down completely. Galindo said he may do a pop-up kitchen in the near future.
La Grullensa is located at 461 S Capitol Ave. at Crossroads Shopping Center.
