MONTEREY BAY, Calif. (CNN) – A whale watch crew from Monterey Bay, California, jumped into action after spotting two men in the water.
It happened on Friday, about six miles from Moss Landing in the central part of the state. The men’s boat had capsized while rock fishing.
The pair spent about 40 minutes in the water while the Coast Guard tried to pinpoint their location. The whale watching boat responded to the Coast Guard’s call for help and found the two men.
One of the rescuers said they were lucky to arrive when they did because conditions at sea quickly deteriorated, and the rescue would have become more challenging.
