Re “Data shows limits of city’s strategy on homelessness” (May 10): Regarding this excellent article by the U-T on the state of the homelessness (I mean “unhoused”) problem in San Diego, it does not paint a very bright picture. It’s time for a reality check.
These “gains” in the reductions of the unhoused repeatedly touted by our local politicians are fantasy at best. It’s time to realize that with our current laws and efforts towards this issue, nothing is going to change. A good example is the picture in the U-T of the homeless person, when asked to move, merely dragging his tent across the street while law enforcement watches. As long as the “unhoused issue” is treated with the false bumper-sticker notion that “housing is a right,” the enabling will continue. The reality check is that housing is not a right, it is only earned through work, desire and accountability.
