Longtime Bay Area news anchor Cristina Rendon will be leaving the station next month.
The weekend KTVU anchor announced that she plans to relocate to Dallas next month during the evening show on Saturday, May 16.
“I’m following my husband for his job,” she said in a clip of the broadcast shared to LinkedIn on Sunday, May 17. “I’m taking a big leap of faith and hoping to land on my feet once I’m there.”
She added that she had also wanted to be closer to family in south Texas.
“This is a very bittersweet announcement,” she said during Saturday’s broadcast, in another clip shared to her Instagram account on Sunday. “For the past 12 ½ years, this place has been home.”
Rendon was raised in San Benito, Texas and started at KTVU in 2013 as a field reporter, working her way to her current role as weekend anchor. On Saturday’s broadcast, she reflected on her time at the station, recalling that one of her first anchor shifts was back in March 2020, as the COVID-19 outbreak was beginning.
Her last day at the station is set for June 13.
Before arriving at KTVU, Rendon worked at KRGV Channel 5 News in the Rio Grande Valley and ABC 4 Utah in Salt Lake City.
She attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio before transferring to St. Edward’s University in Austin, where she received a degree in communication.
She listed the 2014 Napa earthquake and San Francisco Giants World Series win as well as the Golden State Warriors’ championship runs (2015, 2017-18 and 2022) as some of her most memorable moments during her time in the Bay Area.
“Thank you to my colleagues who I consider like family,” Rendon captioned her Instagram post. “It’s been an incredible ride! Let’s make these last 4 weeks count!”
