San Francisco police said officers responded about 5:21 a.m. to the 2500 block of 46th Avenue, near Ulloa Street, after a report of a shooting.
Officers found a person suffering from gunshot wounds and tried to aid him before paramedics arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Monday identified the victim as Bigone, 58. Police have not announced an arrest or released a possible motive in the killing, which the San Francisco Police Department’s homicide detail continues to investigate.
Officer Robert Rueca told KTVU that investigators had spoken with witnesses and were reviewing video from the area.
“We are searching for the suspect and are scouring the neighborhood for evidence as well as any eyewitness statements anyone can provide,” Rueca told the station.
Court records show Bigone was previously convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in Lake County and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. A 2009 federal ruling said the case stemmed from a 2004 head-on crash on Highway 29 that killed another driver.
The killing on Sunday was the second reported homicide in the Sunset District this year.
In March, 22-year-old Samantha Emge was fatally shot at a home on 22nd Avenue. Prosecutors later charged Nation Wood, 25, with involuntary manslaughter in that case.
Police said the killing of Bigone remains open.
