Re “Three victims killed in Islamic center attack identified” (May 19): How did the San Diego mosque teen shooter get his hands on his mother’s guns? San Diego and California law requires gun owners to store their firearms using a California Department of Justice-approved lock or for them to be locked inside a safe or container. Perhaps the mother was not aware of the law. Perhaps the son broke through her locks. The facts are not yet clear, but what is clear is the importance of securing all firearms unless they are in the immediate control of their owner. It is also clear that there must be more education around the fact that secure firearm storage can save lives.
