The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that left a male suspect hospitalized Wednesday afternoon in the unincorporated Azusa area, authorities said.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:23 p.m. on the 5500 block of N. Orangecrest Avenue. Deputies said a male adult suspect was struck by gunfire. No deputies were injured.

Officials said the suspect was transported to a local hospital. His condition was unknown.

The case remains under investigation. No additional information was immediately available.

Once the investigation is completed, the incident will undergo review by the Critical Incident Review Panel and the Sheriff’s Executive Force Review Committee. Constitutional Policing Advisors also participate in the review process.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Justice System Integrity Division, will conduct a legal analysis to determine whether the shooting was legally justified and whether any criminal charges will be filed.
