Days after a big rig driver was taken into custody following a Lodi-area freeway crash that left two dead, federal officials are asking California not to release him.Previous coverage in the video player aboveManvir Singh faces multiple charges that include vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, and obstructing or resisting a police officer. Jail logs show Singh is in the San Joaquin County Jail and is set to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The California Highway Patrol said the crash was reported around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday on northbound Highway 99 near the Harney Lane off-ramp. Four vehicles were involved in total, but it is not clear who died from which vehicle.Singh tried to flee, but CHP said its officers managed to detain him.On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said Singh is an undocumented immigrant from India and asked Newsom and other politicians to not release him.According to DHS, Singh came into the country in Arizona in July 2023.See news happening?
