D’Anthony Chaney was convicted of first-degree murder for fatally shooting a man outside a liquor store and now faces up to 53 years to life in prison.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that a man was convicted of first-degree murder in connection with a 2022 shooting in South Land Park.

Officials said in a press release, “D’Anthony Chaney was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder with the special allegation of personally discharging a firearm causing death, found true.  He was also convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.”

The deadly shooting happened along the 5900 block of South Land Park Drive just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022.

Police found 43-year-old Terence Lindsey suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers tried life-saving measures, which proved unsuccessful. Lindsey was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Sacramento District Attorney’s Office on Thursday outlined a timeline of the shooting. They say Chaney went into Mike’s Liquor in South Land Park to buy alcohol and cigars.

Lindsey was already inside the store making a purchase. Chaney approached the counter and exchanged words with Lindsey, who let Chaney go in front of him in line.

That’s when they say Chaney left the store and waited for Lindsey outside with a gun.

“When the victim exited the store, Chaney shot him seven times at close range, killing him,” the press release stated. “Chaney left the state the following morning and was arrested in Reno four days later by the Sacramento and Reno Police Departments.”

Chaney faces a maximum sentence of 53 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for July 31.
