Los Angeles firefighters found a symbol of the everlasting in the ashes of family home destroyed by the Sandy Fire.
Members of LAFD Engine 85 were sifting through what was left of the Simi Valley home when they found a wedding ring that belongs to the Boyle family. The LAFD was one of several firefighting agencies that came to the aid of residents in the community northwest of Los Angeles after the fire broke out Monday and burned into a neighborhood.
In a post on X, the Ventura County Fire Department shared photos of the family, firefighters and the ring.
“The Boyle family has expressed their incredible gratitude to VCFD and all of the firefighters from around California who responded to this incident,” the Ventura County Fire Department said in a post on X.
Containment of the 2,100-acre fire was at 40%.
Evacuation orders and warnings remained in effect, though several evacuation zones have been downgraded or lifted.
Authorities have not officially determined a cause of the fire, but police said someone using a tractor for brush clearance called to report the machinery struck a rock, possibly producing sparks that started the fire.
