The Long Beach Wilson and Long Beach Poly track and field teams are looking to qualify dozens of athletes for the CIF State Meet by competing well at Saturday’s CIF-SS Masters Meet at Moorpark High.
18 athletes will compete in most events and will advance to next weekend’s CIF State Meet by running faster, jumping or throwing farther than at-large standards.
The Long Beach Wilson girls team will be led by a quartet in the 400. Juniors Clara Adams (52.98), Saniah Varnado (53.53), sophomore Brooklyn Fowler (54.47), and senior Brooke Blue (54.98) are occupying four of the top five seeds in that race. All four have season bests well under the at-large state championship qualifying standard of 55.60.
The Bruins girls squad will look to qualify athletes in the 200, 400, 800, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 4×100 relay, 4×400 relay, 4×800 relay, and triple jump, which would set them up to be the favorites to win the program’s fourth consecutive CIF state team title.

Wilson’s boys team will look to qualify runners in the 400, 800, 4×100 relay, 4×400 relay, and 4×800 relay.
The Jackrabbits boys team will look to qualify athletes in the 400, 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 4×100 relay, 4×400 relay, long jump, and shot put.
Poly’s girls team will look to qualify in the 800, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 4×100 relay, 4×400 relay, and long jump.
Field events start at 10:30 a.m. Running events start at noon.
The CIF State meet will be held at Buchanan High in Clovis on May 29 and 30.
