With floral and geometric adornations trailing along a light blue wall, a hint of Victorian flare and a variety of different patterns that guide the eye around the room, Sindhu Peruri of Los Altos-based interior design business Peruri Design Company shined in the San Francisco Decorator Showcase.
The Peruri Design Company, which provides renovations to constructions, specializes in providing warm spaces that mesh comfort and joy with functionality.
The canvas – the main living room of a historic Queen Anne Victorian home in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood – was ideal for Peruri. Born and raised in India, she was able to integrate contemporary design while maintaining the heart of the home, built in 1897, with modern concepts and artistry from her culture.
Along with the detailed furnishings, hand-painted frescoes, intricate fretwork and mirrorwork adorned Peruri’s living room. With leatherwork and other historied techniques, Peruri partnered with the artists and makers to teeter between her heritage and more modern, contemporary designs.
Her work was part of the San Francisco Decorator Showcase, which unites a number of artists, designers and craftspeople to one specific home to revamp and design the space. The home, in this case the historic residence at 2315 Broadway St., is then opened in a month-long exhibition, and all the proceeds support University High School students who receive financial aid.
The home that is worked on by the artists is often put on the market after the Showcase, which was the case this year, and the work put into the home often increases the home’s real estate value.
The first showcase raised approximately $26,000, while today it raises over $1 million annually.
