Kern Co. to open cooling centers starting June 1
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — With the start of summer inching closer and temperatures already rising, the Kern County Cooling Center program is gearing up to operate for the summer.
This year, the program will be in operation from Monday, June 1 through Tuesday, September 22.

The cooling centers will open when summer temperatures forecasted by the National Weather Service exceed certain highs.
The centers will open in San Joaquin and Kern River Valleys when temperatures are forecasted to be 105 degrees or higher. In desert areas, the center will open when it is forecasted to be 108 degrees or hotter and in Frazier Park when temperatures exceed 93 degrees.
The cooling centers will be open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. A daily report will be issued by 11 a.m. the day before the centers open.

Jeferson Center, 436 Jefferson Ave., Delano
11th Avenue Community Center, 260 W. 11th Ave., Delano
Kern River Valley Senior Center, 6405 Lake Isabella Boulevard, Lake Isabella
Gusher Hall, 271 California St., Maricopa
Walker Senior Center, 505 Sunset Ave., Shafter
Taft Community Center Activity Building, 500 Cascade Place, Taft
Frazier Park Recreation Building, 3801 Park Drive, Frazier Park
Hummel Community Building, 2500 20th St., Rosamond
Strata Center, 10350 Heather Ave., California City
The Kerr McGee Center, 100 W. California Ave., Ridgecrest
