WE CONTINUE TO HONOR THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE ON THIS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, DAY ONE OF THE ANNUAL PRODUCTION OF A GRATEFUL NATION REMEMBERS TOOK PLACE IN YUBA CITY. TODAY, PHOTOJOURNALIST MATT HARDIN TAKES US THERE. WE’RE HERE TO HONOR THOSE EVERYONE THAT HAS SERVED, BUT ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT GAVE ALL YOU KNOW, BECAUSE MANY OF THEM DID. THEY DIDN’T WANT TO BE THERE. THEY ANSWERED THE CALL OF THEIR COUNTRY. WE’RE HERE TO HONOR THEM TODAY AND TOMORROW. WHEN I SEE THIS, IT TOUCHES MY HEART. YOU KNOW, I’VE BEEN IN AFGHANISTAN, WE’VE LOST GREEN BERETS ON THE GROUND, AND I KNOW THAT THEIR NAMES ARE ON THESE, ON THESE WALLS. AND SO IT’S SUCH A PLEASURE TO KNOW THAT THEY’RE NEVER GOING TO BE FORGOTTEN, BECAUSE THERE’S PEOPLE THAT LOVE AND, AND HONOR THE SACRIFICE OF OUR SOLDIERS AND OUR WARRIORS. IT’S HEART WRENCHING AND STUFF. YOU KNOW, A LOT OF MY FRIENDS ARE OUT HERE ON THE WALL, YOU KNOW, AND I THINK ABOUT THEM DAILY, YOU KNOW, SOME SOME OF THE YOUNG SOLDIERS ON HERE, THEIR, YOU KNOW, ONLY 18 AND STUFF WHEN THEY DIED, COME TO THIS PLACE. YOU CAN SEE THE PRICE OF YOUR FREEDOM. WE STARTED AND IT WAS PRETTY MUCH BASED ON THE VIETNAM ERA, KOREA, THE TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER, AND THEN NINE OVER 11 AND DESERT STORM AND SO FORTH. ALL OF THE SCRIPTS AND EVERYTHING FOR ALL OF THIS, HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HERE AT CALVARY SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS DONATING THEIR TIME IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. Courage, sacrifice and legacy comprised the theme of a Yuba City event honoring those who paid the ultimate price in protecting the country.Among the 13 names added to a memorial honoring fallen service members was Robert Marzan, a Sacramento native and Elk Grove High School graduate who was killed during Iran’s initial retaliation against U.S. forces at a command center in Kuwait. His name joins the 21-panel memorial, with the names of 7,054 who died in service to the nation from Sept. 11, 2001, to April 30, 2026.”A Grateful Nation Remembers” took place at noon Sunday, but it also continues on Memorial Day. The event includes live Vietnam and Afghanistan reenactments, a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and keynote speakers who served in both wars.”This is not simply a ceremony people attend,” organizers said in a news release. “It is an experience people feel. We want every person who walks through these doors to leave with a deeper gratitude for the men and women who fought, sacrificed, and gave everything for this nation.”Those interested in attending Monday’s event can go to the Calvary Christian Center at 2620 Colusa Highway in Yuba City.
