Re “Charter measure to allow officials third term” (May 21): I am very sorry that our county’s Board of Supervisors has not followed the lead of Los Angeles County and attempted to expand the number of supervisors. In 2024, L.A. County voters approved expanding from five to nine supervisors. San Diego County has also had five supervisors since the county was established in 1850. Our population has expanded just a bit since then, and representation should as well.
The Charter measure that will be submitted to the voters in November should be defeated. It would give greater power to supervisors and extend their term limits. The documented attempts to hide the loosening of term limits reveal this is the true purpose of the measure. No charter measure should pass until we get additional representation. It is absurd that San Diego County has as many members of Congress as it does county supervisors.
