The Monterey Bay Sirens hosted their first media day today ahead of their match against the Oakland Soul in the USL-W league. The Sirens have relied on their defense to stay competitive, conceding only one goal in their first two matches of the season. The team’s roster includes players from across the United States, as well as several who grew up on the Central Coast. Local players expressed their pride in representing their hometown team. “I grew up going up to San Jose, commuting to play for some high-level teams, so to have a high-level team here is such an honor,” said Kate Nunes, a Salinas native and outside back for the Sirens. “I think this is a great opportunity for local girls to meet girls from out of town and play with talent from all over the place,” said Jennifer Montes, another Salinas native on the team. The Sirens’ next home game is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m.
