OAKLAND CITY, Ind. (WFIE) – All work, no pay – that’s what employees at Oakland City University have been dealing with for a whole month.
OCU staff have now missed two paychecks, all while the university decides their next steps.
One month ago, OCU filed “WARN” notices in the event employees needed to be let go due to financial challenges.
At the time, school officials told us there were no immediate plans to close the school.
This week, we learned the university will be laying off some of their employees, but which departments exactly were not disclosed.
Additionally, OCU announced they have suspended all of their undergraduate programs, meaning many of their students will need to find a new university.
Despite all of this, OCU spokesperson Todd Mosby says the university has finalized a “strategic partnership” that should allow them to keep operations running.
OCU has 112 full-time faculty and staff, as well as 37 adjunct instructors. There are 548 students, including on-campus and online.
Unpaid employees have spoken out in the past few days about unanswered questions and lack of transparency. You can read what they had to say in the link below.
