Re “No on Measure A, City Hall’s latest reckless gamble” (May 15): The notion that the “non-primary homes” measure proposed by San Diego Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera will create “affordable” housing is both laughable and foolish. Many of these homes are owned by individuals who can afford a second home, but live the majority of their time elsewhere for a variety of reasons. They pay property taxes for infrastructure that they do not use full-time and contribute to the financial well-being of the city when residing here in the form of sales tax and supporting small businesses. These are not starter homes, nor are they located in neighborhoods that one of modest means can afford or may choose to live. This is a money grab by the City Council and the mayor as a solution for mismanagement of city finances. Vote no on Measure A.
