The murder trial determining the guilt over Sacramento’s deadliest shooting is set to resume Tuesday after it was set back last week by juror attendance issues.On April 3, 2022, six people died, and 12 people were injured after gunfire broke out along one of the city’s most popular nightlife hotspots. Of the six dead, half were slain gunmen, and the other half were women who were found to have had nothing to do with the violent confrontation.Prosecutors believe this shooting was a gang-related confrontation that was planned. Defense attorneys argue that long-time friends were having a good time, partying on a Saturday night, until a conversation spiraled into a shootout.Standing trial are Mtula Payton and Dandrae Martin, who face murder and weapons charges. Smiley Martin was also in custody in connection with the shooting, but he died in 2024 of methadone toxicity. Witness testimony was expected to finish by the end of the month, but repeated juror issues led to this historic trial adding May 22 and May 29 to the schedule.
