WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) — Thousands of Halloween revelers took to the streets on Friday night for the annual West Hollywood Carnaval.

The beloved annual celebration officially got underway at 6 p.m. and was scheduled to continue until 11 p.m. on Santa Monica Boulevard between Doheny Drive and La Cienega Boulevard.

The street festival is touted by the city as transforming Santa Monica Boulevard into “a mile-long celebration of costumes, creativity, music and community.” It features a live DJ, food trucks and live entertainment.

“We’ve been months and and months and months of planning for this event,” said Sgt. Jason Duron of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “We’re increasing our patrols, we have hundreds of deputies on foot out here at the festival, keeping roads blocked, keeping people safe.

“There’s going to be deputies in uniform and there’s going to be deputies out of uniform out here,” Duron added. “You’re not going to see them. We do have undercover people here.”

West Hollywood officials said that bringing pets and children to the often-crowded event was not advised.

With this year’s event falling on the same night as Game 6 of the World Series, local bars and restaurants hosted jam-packed watch parties as the Dodgers took on the Blue Jays in Toronto.

“Bracing for impact right now,” GYM Bar WeHo owner Jonathan Cottrell said before the game. “We knew this was a possibility but we kind of hoped the Dodgers would’ve clinched it by now. You know, today’s an elimination game, so our theme tonight is, “We’re not dead yet.”
