BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A Bakersfield man accused of stabbing 60-year-old Michael Gauthier to death on Taylor Street last month is scheduled to undergo a competency exam next month, court records show.
Jerome Andreas, 34, is set for the exam on June 30, 2026, according to the Kern County court website.
Andreas is charged with the death of Michael Gauthier, who was stabbed in the 600 block of Taylor Street on April 15, 2026, at around 6:18 a.m.
Records also show Andreas was in custody at the Kern County Justice Facility in connection with a separate robbery offense reported on April 27, 2026, in the 10 block of Oak Street.
Bakersfield police said detectives with the Bakersfield Police Department’s Robbery and Homicide Division obtained an arrest warrant for 34-year-old Jerome Andreas of Bakersfield.
According to the warrant, Andreas was described as having “had pentagrams drawn on his palms, ‘666’ written on his wallet, and multiple tattoos depicting pentagrams and devils on his arm, along with the handwritten words ‘Kill me’ drawn on his back with another star upside down.” The description was noted because documents said the victim, who was developmentally disabled, had crosses in his home and was recently baptized.

Documents said a DNA test found that a swab from the knife blade in Andreas’ backpack contained DNA from Andreas and the victim.
