Comedian, actor and writer Billy Eichner first broke through in the 2010s with his hysterical (in more ways than one) television and web series “Billy on the Street.” That brash, pop culture-obsessed version of himself he played was a hit with audiences, and he built on that success as the co-lead with Julie Klausner in the hilarious Hulu comedy “Difficult People,” followed by playing Matt Drudge in a dramatic turn on Ryan Murphy’s “American Crime Story.” Eichner also broke new ground as the first openly gay male writer and star of a major studio film with his 2022 comedy “Bros.”
Now, his new audiobook, “Billy on Billy,” tells the story of the little gay boy who would one day become the man yelling about Nicole Kidman on the streets of New York for laughs. As brash as the Billy character is, the story is a sweet coming-of-age tale many LGBTQ and culturally advanced children will relate to, from disappointing auditions to getting a copy of Madonna’s book “Sex” as an adolescent.
The recording also features exclusive audio clips from Eichner’s work, including songs he wrote and performed.
On Wednesday, June 3, Eichner will appear in conversation with Chronicle arts and culture columnist Tony Bravo at Calvary Presbyterian Church, presented by Book Passage.
