Moral victories and individual achievements are often hard to fully savor when your team falls short of its ultimate goal.
For Duke softball standouts Aminah Vega and Jessica Oakland, there is still real pride to be found in earning D1Softball All-American honors after the team was eliminated in the Super Regionals of the NCAA Tournament this past weekend.
The duo each picked up their second D1Softball All-American nods of their respective careers after Vega was named to the first team and Oakland to the second team Tuesday morning.
Vega has been the heartbeat of the Blue Devil offense, which was one of the best in the entire country. She led the team in batting average (.462), runs (87), doubles (21), triples (5) and total bases (174) in 60 games played.
The native Floridian has rewritten the program record books this season, setting the career doubles record with 67. She sits second all-time at Duke with 301 career hits and became the Duke career home runs leader during the Fayetteville Super Regional with 55 career deep shots.

To round out her illustrious career, Vega finished as the only player in program history to garner NFCA All-Region and All-Acc honors in four consecutive seasons.
As for Oakland, the San Jose native started 55 games at shortstop after missing opening weekend due to injury.
She was one of three players who managed to hit above .400 this season, closing out the year with an impressive .443 batting average and a career-high 78 hits, with 11 doubles and 15 homers.
Oakland ranked second on the team with 70 RBI on the season and was named the NFCA National Player of the Week on April 21, following a lethal performance at the plate in games against Tennessee and Boston College.
The redshirt junior was also named to the ACC All-Tournament team after going 5-for-8 with four RBI during her team’s pair of games. Oakland also earned the third NFCA All-Region recognition of her career, the first of her time with Duke after spending her first two seasons at Minnesota.
The Blue Devils may have fallen short of a Women’s College World Series berth, but the brilliance of players like Vega and Oakland defined Duke’s 2026 campaign. Their performances didn’t just elevate their team; they continued to push the boundaries of what the standard at Duke can be.
