A Pontiac man has opted out of trial by pleading to multiple felony charges for possessing pornographic images involving children.
At a hearing May 26 in Oakland County Circuit Court, Matthew Brockway Kliewer, 42, pleaded no contest to six counts of child sexually abusive material-aggravated possession. He faces up to 10 years in prison and/or a $50,000 fine on each charge though judges often impose concurrent sentences in cases such as this. Sentencing by Judge Jacob Cunningham is scheduled for July 14.

A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes. It can also offer some liability protection in civil cases.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Kliewer was arrested April 13 after he called Oakland County dispatch, requesting a welfare check of his mother who was reportedly having medical issues. While deputies were at the home, they spotted printed images of child pornography in plain view, the sheriff’s office said. A search warrant was subsequently obtained and executed, where additional pornographic images, various electronic devices including computers, gaming systems and a cell phone were confiscated, the sheriff’s office said. Thousands of child pornography images were stored on the electronic devices, the sheriff’s office said.
Kliewer is held in the Oakland County Jail with bond set at $75,000 with a 10% provision.
