The driver of a stolen vehicle was arrested Wednesday after leading authorities on a short South Bay pursuit that ended in a crash, according to officials.
Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputies responded at about 4:15 a.m. to a report of a stolen vehicle. Deputies found the car roughly 15 minutes later and tried to pull the driver over, but the driver took off, the sheriff’s office said.
A short chase ensued before the driver crashed near the Interstate 880-Interstate 280 interchange, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver and a passenger in the vehicle were detained, the sheriff’s office said. The driver was later arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on several charges, including evading/fleeing, unlawfully taking a vehicle, receiving stolen property, possessing a controlled substance and violating probation.
No one was injured during the chase and crash, the sheriff’s office said.
