BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) With the June 2 primary election less than a week away, Kern County election officials are urging voters to take a few simple steps to make sure their ballots are received and counted.

Laura Cantu, assistant registrar of voters with the Kern County Elections Office, said voters returning a mail-in ballot should use an official drop box or deliver it in person.

“The best way at this point for a voter to make sure that our office receives it is to use one of our official drop boxes, or on election day you can take it to any poll site and drop it off,” Cantu said.

“You can also mail in your ballot at a post office.”

Cantu said mailed ballots will still count as long as they meet the postmark and receipt deadlines.

“So as long as it’s post marked June second and we receive it seven days after the election it will be counted,” she said.

Voters who prefer to cast a ballot in person can do so on Election Day.

Cantu noted voters can find their polling place online.

“A list of poll sites is available on our website if they want to look up their poll site again that’s on kernvote.com they can put in their address and find their poll site or their nearest poll site,” she said.

Cantu also said it is still possible to register to vote, including for people who have not yet become registered California voters.

“Voters can actually come into our office anytime starting today as well as on election day to register to vote,” she said.
