Zendaya spent part of the afternoon shopping and eating along San Francisco’s Clement Street in San Francisco, giving several Richmond District businesses an unexpected brush with one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
Employees at Green Apple Books, Foggy Notion and Pasta Supply Company confirmed with the Chronicle that the Oakland-born actor visited their stores Wednesday, May 27. She was accompanied by a small group of friends that included “Euphoria” co-star Hunter Schafer, according to the businesses.
The stops made for a casual outing for Zendaya, who has been on a busy run of film and television projects but has continued to make public and private visits to the region where she grew up.
At Pasta Supply Co., chef-owner Anthony Strong said Zendaya and her friends arrived around 3 p.m. and ordered “a whole round of pastas.”
“It was lowkey,” Strong told the Chronicle. “Honestly, it was exactly the kind of chill group of friends we like slinging pasta for here.”

Strong said Zendaya also bought a tin of worm salt from the shop before leaving.
“She’s so damn cool,” Strong said. “I think I officially have a favorite actress now.”
The group also stopped at Foggy Notion, a gift shop at 124 Clement St., where an employee said they spent about 20 minutes chatting with staff and complimenting the store’s playlist. The employee, who asked not to be named, said the group bought candles and skincare products from local and women-owned businesses.
Green Apple Books, the longtime independent bookstore at Clement Street and Sixth Avenue, also confirmed Zendaya’s visit.

Zendaya’s Clement Street afternoon came during a brief pause between high-profile projects. A24’s “The Drama,” which co-stars Robert Pattinson, has already been released this year, and the third season HBO’s “Euphoria” is airing on Max.
She is also set to appear in Chrisopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” scheduled for July 17, and Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” scheduled for July 31.
The latter film reunites Zendaya with her longtime partner, Tom Holland. The two met while working on “Spider-Man: Homecoming” in 2016, and have been publicly linked for several years. Zendaya has not publicly confirmed recent rumors that the couple married.
Zendaya also recently told Elle that she and Holland adopted a pocket bully form an Oakland shelter during another visit to the Bay Area. The actor described the dog as a “wonderful addition” to their family.
The Bay Area stops are consistent with Zendaya’s continued ties with the Bay Area. She grew up in Oakland, attended Oakland school for the Arts and has been spotted over the years at familiar places, including Berkeley’s Yogurt Park. In March, during a fan interaction at the Rome premier of “The Drama,” she named Arizmendi Bakery on Lakeshore Avenue as a favorite Oakland place to eat, sending a wave of new attention to the worker-owned bakery.
