ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (WILX) – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious crash involving a patrol vehicle that was struck early Friday morning on M-59.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. while deputies were investigating an unrelated incident on westbound M-59 between Crooks Road and Adams Road.
Authorities said a 2018 Chevrolet Impala driven by a 27-year-old Waterford Township man was traveling westbound when it struck an unoccupied, fully marked patrol vehicle that was blocking traffic. The patrol vehicle’s emergency lights were activated at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Impala was transported by the Rochester Hills Fire Department to McLaren Oakland Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Deputies were several yards away from the patrol vehicle when the crash occurred and were not injured.
Investigators have not determined whether alcohol, drugs or excessive speed were factors in the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
