LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A Los Angeles man embarked on a TikTok journey that morphed into a search for love with a unique freeway sign.
Eric Jonas said he hadn’t been on social media for six years until he decided to get on TikTok.
“I just started posting my random thoughts or ideas,” he told Eyewitness News. “I made another video that was like, ‘I’m single. These are all the things I like to do.’ From my experience, places where there’s so much choice makes it so much harder.”
He then started getting tons of messages and thought, “There’s got to be a way to meet someone.”
Jonas then started to think about all those signs posted on freeway overpasses across L.A.
“I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I did the same thing, but was just funny about me?’ I was like, ‘Oh, well instead of paying $30 for Hinge, I could pay $30 to make a sign.'”
That’s exactly what he did.
He put up his sign that read, “I’m single” on the 101 Freeway overpass in the Silver Lake area and of course, quickly went viral!
“I stood up there for like two-and-a-half hours, and then people were honking like crazy,” said Jonas. “I woke up and then the video had like tons of views. I saw all these other videos of me, like, dancing.”
“I wasn’t hoping to get anything out of it except to meet people,” he added. “It’s so wild to think that just an idea I had could turn into, like, so many people connecting to the idea, and it just shows how powerful an idea could be.”
In case you’re wondering, Jonas says he’s still single.
“People are like commenting, ‘Are you still single?’ It was yesterday! Like, I didn’t have a boyfriend after 12 hours,” he joked.
“When I saw so many people being like, ‘This made my day! I saw you dancing, it was so fun, I love your energy.’ It just made them have a better day. That was awesome. I can’t ask for anything else.'”
