Northern California Classic fitness festival kicks off in Sacramento
CARLOS RODON FIRST PITCH IS AT 640. RIGHT NOW, SOME OF THE FITTEST ATHLETES IN THE SACRAMENTO REGION ARE IN TOWN. THEY’RE HERE FOR THE EIGHTH ANNUAL NORCAL CLASSIC. THE COMPETITION KICKS OFF TODAY FOR THREE DAYS FULL OF FITNESS CHALLENGES. MIKE TESELLE IS AT DISCOVERY PARK WITH WHAT WE CAN EXPECT FROM THE COMPETITORS. TALK ABOUT GETTING YOUR SWEAT ON. WE ARE HERE AT DISCOVERY PARK. THIS A LOOK AT THE START OF THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA CLASSIC. WE ARE WRAPPING UP THIS DIVISION OF THE PAIRS DIVISION, WHERE IT’S TWO PEOPLE WHO START WITH ROWING, THEN JUMP ROPING, THEN GRAB A COURT AND THEN THEY RUN TOGETHER AROUND THE COURSE. AND YOU DO THAT REPEATEDLY FOR OVER NINE MINUTES. THIS ALL PART OF THE RETURN OF THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA CLASSIC HERE TO DISCOVERY PARK. THIS IS AN EVENT THAT STARTED BACK IN 2019, GREW FROM ROUGHLY 300 ATHLETES TO NEARLY A THOUSAND LAST YEAR. LAST YEAR WAS A RECORD YEAR FOR THE NUMBER OF ATHLETES. ONE OF THE REASONS THERE’S 30 DIVISIONS COMPETING FOR SOME $162,000 IN CASH PRIZES. THIS IS CALLED AN ALL FITNESS UMBRELLA COMPETITION, MEANING YOU DO EVERYTHING. YOU RUN, YOU JUMP, YOU ROW, YOU CLIMB, YOU LIFT A LOT OF WEIGHT. IT’S THE BIGGEST EVENT OF ITS KIND IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. AND AGAIN, AS YOU WATCH THESE ATHLETES PERFORM, THIS IS SOMETHING YOU CAN DO. IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO DO THIS WEEKEND.
