A Sacramento County medical office was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon after reports of a person with a gun, but deputies found no firearm.

CARMICHAEL, Calif. — A medical office in Sacramento County was placed on lockdown Friday afternoon after reports of a person with a gun, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 12:15 p.m. to the Mercy Medical Group building at 6555 Coyle Avenue after a woman reported that a man inside the building told her there was an armed person.

The caller told dispatchers she never saw anyone with a firearm, authorities said.

Out of an abundance of caution, the medical facility initiated a lockdown, prompting additional 911 calls reporting an unconfirmed person with a firearm.

Deputies, alongside California Highway Patrol, Citrus Heights Police Department, Sacramento Police Department and Rancho Cordova Police Department, cleared and evacuated the building while conducting a search.

Citrus Heights police later identified and detained the man who initially claimed there was a gun before turning him over to Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies.

No firearm was found, and no injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
