A pair of longtime rivals and two new competitors highlight top section championship baseball action on Saturday at separate neutral-site venues.
Second-seeded Valley Christian (19-9) will play fifth-seeded Soquel (23-4) for the Central Coast Section Division 1 championship at Excite Ball Park in San Jose starting at 7 p.m. The teams have met just four times since 2004, though twice in the past two seasons with Valley Christian winning 4-1 on March 10 and 3-2 last season.
Meanwhile, in the North Coast Section Division 1 championship, top-seeded De La Salle (21-4) plays sixth-seeded Granada-Livermore (19-8) in a 4 p.m. game at St. Mary’s College. The teams, who battle annually in the East Bay Athletic League, played for the 2024 NCS Division 1 championship, with Granada winning an epic 1-0 game that lasted 14 innings and took two days to complete due to darkness after the first nine innings.

In the softball championships, the top two seeds were knocked off in the CCS Open Division playoffs, with third-seeded Mitty (25-3) and fourth-seeded Willow Glen-San Jose (22-6) left to play for the title at West Valley College at 3 p.m. Saturday. Mitty knocked off No. 2 seed Hollister 6-1 in semifinal action while Willow Glen topped No. 1 St. Francis 4-2.
In NCS, the championship game is at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s College, where No. 2 seed San Ramon Valley-Danville (22-6) plays fourth-seeded College Park-Pleasanton Hill 20-6). In semifinal play, College Park topped No. 1 Alameda 3-1 while San Ramon Valley downed No. 3 Livermore 5-4.
