The second annual Sing-a-Long Beach event took place on Saturday, May 30, at the Recreation Park Bandshell — providing an afternoon full of smiles, dancing and lots of crooning.
The free singing event, organized by the Long Beach Youth Chorus, brought together dozens of people of all ages to sing songs from different genres and artists – such as Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac and Amy Winehouse. This year’s songs included “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond and “Dancing Queen” by ABBA.
On the bandshell stage, Long Beach Youth Chorus members and staff led the crowd in singing the curated list of songs. Different community groups and city leaders joined the stage to perform as well. The Naples Islands Garden Club, for example, sang Elvis Presley’s version of “Hound Dog” and The Golden Sands Chorus, joined by Third District Councilmember Kristina Duggan, performed “Wake Up Little Susie” by the Everly Brothers.
The event ended with everyone singing to “Hey Jude” by the Beatles.
Long Beach Youth Chorus was able to put on the event with support from the Port of Long Beach, Arts Council for Long Beach, Duggan, Live at the Shell, and the Long Beach community.
