(KRON) — A San Leandro man was fatally shot in Oakland in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to the Oakland Police Department, the shooting occurred shortly after 2:45 a.m. in the 1400 block of Harrison Street.

Officers responded to the area on a report of a shooting.

At the scene, officers located the victim, a San Leandro man, suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics responded and transported him to the hospital, where he later died.

OPD Homicide Division investigators are conducting a follow-up investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Police said the identity of the victim is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation, police say, is ongoing.
