Los Angeles Dodgers at Toronto Blue Jays

  • November 2, 2025

TORONTO (KPTV) – For the first time since 2019, the World Series is coming down to a winner-take-all Game 7.

Here’s what you need to know ahead of tonight’s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays.

Coverage starts at 4 p.m. on FOX 12, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. from Rogers Centre in Toronto.

The series

The Dodgers entered the series as heavy favorites, though faced an extended layoff after sweeping the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS, while the Blue Jays battled the Seattle Mariners through a seven-game series in the ALCS.

Toronto earned home field advantage by virtue of a better regular season record, finishing one game better than the Dodgers.

Here’s a look at how the back-and-forth series has gone:

Game 1: Blue Jays 11, Dodgers 4Game 2: Dodgers 5, Blue Jays 1Game 3: Dodgers 6, Blue Jays 5 (18 innings)Game 4: Blue Jays 6, Dodgers 2Game 5: Blue Jays 6, Dodgers 1Game 6: Dodgers 3, Blue Jays 1

So far, the home team has gone 2-4. The Blue Jays entered Game 6 needing just one win to clinch the title, but the Dodgers held on in a thrilling finish to set up Saturday’s do-or-die clash.

The Dodgers will start two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, who allowed four runs over six innings in a Game 4 loss on Tuesday night – throwing 93 pitches in the process.

While Ohtani has gone six innings in three previous starts on the mound this postseason, we will be pitching on just three days’ rest for the first time in his MLB career.

However, by starting Ohtani on the mound, the Dodgers can leave him in the game as a designated hitter after he is pulled (MLB rule 5.11 (b)).

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays will hand the ball to postseason veteran Max Scherzer. While the 41-year-old struggled in the regular season, accumulating a career-high 5.19 ERA over 17 starts, he has fared better in two starts during the 2025 playoffs.

He pitch 4.1 innings of an 18-inning classic in Game 3 on Monday, allowing three runs and striking out three in a no-decision, and earned the victory in Game 4 of the ALCS.

The eight-time All-Star will be making his 28th career playoff start Saturday, having won World Series titles with both the Washington Nationals in 2019 (also starting Game 7, but taking a no-decision) and Texas Rangers in 2023.

Scherzer was a member of the Dodgers in 2021, and was slated to start Game 6 of the NLCS that season before being scratched with an arm injury. The Atlanta Braves won the game 4-2 to advance to the World Series that year, where they beat the Houston Astros in six games.

What’s at stake

The Dodgers look to become the first MLB team to repeat as champion since the New York Yankees won three straight from 1998-2000. No National League team has gone back-to-back since the Cincinnati Reds in 1975-76.

The Blue Jays look for their first championship in over 30 years. They have never lost a World Series – winning in their first two appearances in 1992 and 1993, before making it back this season.
