(FOX40.COM) — FOX40 and its parent company, Nexstar, are proud to donate $5,000 to support the work of Kids Helping Kids Sacramento.

Kids Helping Kids is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run by high school students from the Sacramento area, raising money for the benefit of children battling cancer and their families.

The CEO, COO, chief marketing officer and other positions within the organization are all staffed by high school juniors and seniors and the Board of Directors is made up of local business leaders.

In January, FOX40 covered what has come to be the organization’s signature annual event: a black-tie gala featuring live music.

One of the non-profit’s supervising teachers told FOX40 they have raised more than $1.6 million since the program was founded in 2012.

The non-profit’s roots took hold at Del Campo High School that year after students and teachers joined together to help out a peer who was experiencing homelessness.

“Through the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and the ‘30 Days of Giving’ initiative, we are proud to support Kids Helping Kids Sacramento and their mission to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children in need across the Sacramento region,” Cathy Gunther, Vice President and General Manager of KTXL FOX40 Television in Sacramento, CA, said. “As a local media organization, FOX40 Television is deeply committed to strengthening the communities we serve. This donation reflects our ongoing dedication to empowering children, supporting local nonprofits, and helping build a brighter future for Sacramento.”
