BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Fire Department is conducting “Wildland Hot Drills” in east Bakersfield on Wednesday, June 3 and Thursday, June 4, from 8 a.m. to the afternoon.

KCFD said the training burns will consist of live fire exercises in dry grass. The focus is on developing essential skills for their newer firefighters.

“Once completed, the burns will have eliminated dead and dry grasses that pose a wildfire threat to local residences,” said in a release.

KCFD said that, in preparation, the department created fuel breaks on the property with heavy equipment and coordinated plans with utility companies and Air Pollution Control District.

The burns will be at the southeast corner of the intersection of Highway 178 and Weedpatch Highway.
