BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man on a motorized bicycle was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday night in central Bakersfield, said Bakersfield police. The driver cooperated with law enforcement.
On June 3, 2026, at around 7:59 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of Brundage Lane and A Street regarding an injury crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. Upon arrival, a man was seen in the road suffering major injuries. Medical aid personnel arrived, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the man will be released at a later time by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
A preliminary investigation indicated that a man was riding a motorized bicycle westbound on Brundage Lane and entered the intersection against a red light. The involved driver, a man, was heading south on A Street when the crash happened.
The driver cooperated with BPD. Neither speed nor intoxication is believed to be a factor in the crash, said police.
Officials remind residents that the 2300 block of Brundage Lane is an east and west road with two lanes of travel in each direction. The lanes are separated by a solid double yellow line. Both the east and westbound lanes have a single left-turn lane for east or westbound traffic to turn south or north onto A Street. The speed limit is 40 miles per hour.
The 10 block of A Street is a north-south road with one lane of travel in each direction. The lanes of travel are divided by a solid double yellow line. The southbound lane of travel has a single left-turn lane for southbound traffic to turn east onto Brundage Lane. The speed limit is 35 miles per hour.
The investigation is ongoing.
