The Grammy Museum is throwing a huge hip-hop party as the downtown Los Angeles venue uses the entire facility to celebrate music, art, culture and community.
Tickets are now on sale for the third annual Hip-Hop Block Party happening June 16.
“We want to use our platform to highlight what’s going in our community and this event happening in June is to celebrate Black Music Month. So we’re not only highlighting the local artists but we’re also celebrating Black culture, hip-hop culture,” said Schyler O’Neal, the Grammy Museum’s manager of Education & Community Engagement
The celebration will include performances, panels, open mics, a fashion market and fashion shows plus DJ sets.
“It’s a full museum-wide activation where every floor has something going on. We wanted to celebrate how each of the elements of hip-hop were represented,” he said.

Here’s how the day will go.
As soon as people start to walk in they’ll be greeted by a drumline performance. Then once people make their way past the lobby to the second floor there will be panel discussions with Dyana Williams, the co-founder of Black Music Month, plus a panel about monetizing hip-hop in film and TV and there will be an exhibit called “Sonic Playground,” which will include an open mic for MCs.
“It’ll be like a jam session, so that should be pretty cool,” O’Neal said.
If you’re into hip-hop fashion, the third floor is your place because there will be vendors there displaying their newest hip-hop threads and there will be a fashion show too. And yes, you can buy some gear, since it’s all for sale.
When you reach the fourth floor there will be a spoken word and comedy show plus trivia.
“It’s pretty much a game night for music nerds all about hip-hop trivia,” he said.
On the fifth and final floor there will be a drumline performance, MCs, DJs and college dance performances and a Jam Session hosted by the National Black Musicians Coalition.
“The whole purpose of this event is to open the doors to our community and highlight the different talents, the different brands, the different artists within our community and use the Grammy Museum as a platform to showcase what they do,” O’Neal said.
